Education stakeholders in Baringo have lauded the reforms introduced in the management of national examinations.
Speaking at Kabarnet town during celebrations for top candidates in the region, St Joseph’s Academy board chairman Daniel Cheboi thanked the government through the Ministry of Education for fast tracking the marking process, saying that it will enable them prepare in advance for the candidates who will join form one in January 2019.
Cheboi stated that the examinations were handled with a lot of professionalism and he believes the results reflect the true hard work of the pupils who sat for the examinations.
“I want to thank the government for taking the right step in the management of exams stemming from issues of cheating and the marking of the papers,” said Cheboi.
He also thanked the entire management of the school for meeting the target they set this year of attaining 351 mean grade, saying that it was testimony of their unity of purpose.
Senior teacher Domtila Kiptoo reiterated the sentiments saying that unlike before when the results took long to be released it was prone to alteration of marks but the short period of marking leaves no room for such practices.
The school performance leaped up from the previous years’ where the top marks jumped to 423 marks from the previous 379 marks.
Victor Kemboi who emerged top in the school said he never expected such results since he has been getting an average of 405 marks in the subsequent examinations.
“The marks came as a surprise because I have been getting around 405 marks but I thank God for my results,” he said.
Kemboi who aspires to be an engineer in future wishes to join Alliance Boy’s High School and promises to work hard when he joins secondary school.
Green View Academy in Eldama Ravine Sub-County produced the top candidate in the county, Patience Chelagat who scored 430 marks, Allan Bett came in second with 425 and Ian Kiptum scored 423 marks.
