The government has identified technical training institutions as key potential areas to solve unemployment especially among the youth.
Speaking at Siala Technical Training Institute in Migori County Saturday, Vocational and Technical Training Principal Secretary Dr. Julius Juan said the government has invested a lot of resources in such institutions with the key aim of boosting employability skills needed in different sectors of the economy.
Dr. Juan challenged the youth to grab the opportunities offered by the government in technical institutions where fee has been highly subsidized to help many youth access the needed skills.
The PS said the country is in need of job creators not job seekers thus coming up with such institutions will provide an opportunity to the young people to be innovative and self-reliant in a bid to help address the acute unemployment facing the country.
He toured the institution to assess the level of preparedness to contain covid-19 ahead of opening date to be announced by the government.
Dr. Juan revealed that the government has already completed construction of 30 TVET institutions in the entire country and aims to construct more.
He said the government targets every sub county to have such institutions to benefit local youths for skills enhancement hence boosting their livelihood.
According to him, the government has allocated funds to accomplish unfinished TVET projects in Migori County and the rest of the country.
Migori has three completed TVETs which includes Siala in Rongo Sub County, Kiandege and Mabera in Kuria East and Kuria West Sub-Counties respectively.
On his part Siala Technical Training Institute Principal Mr. Fredrick Situma applauded the move made by the government in helping ensure the health protocols in terms of combating the spread of covid-19, showing optimism that learning operations shall resume soon.
