Mastermind of killing on ex-judges farm nabbed

Security officers on Kisumu/Nandi border have arrested the main suspect in the murder of retired Judge Effie Owour’s manager in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.

 

Kisumu County Commissioner Mrs. Pauline Dolla said the suspect, whom police identified as Malakwen was arrested today on the Nandi side of the border.

 

Speaking at Kopere market where Kisumu and Nandi security teams held a public baraza to restore normalcy in the troubled area.

 

Mrs. Dolla said the owner of the two tractors that were ploughing the land belonging the retired Judge has also been arrested.

 

The suspect, who had gone into hiding after committing the crime last Saturday attacked and killed George Benjo at Owour’s home at Nyangore location.

 

“We have arrested him to help identify the person who hired his tractors to trespass into the retired Judge’s land,” she said.

 

Also arrested is a villager elder, who is a brother to the main suspect believed to having information regarding the incident.

 

Speaking at the baraza, the County Commissioner has called for calm among the residents, saying more security officers have been deployed to the area.

 

“Calm has returned to the area and we urge wananchi to go about their business as usual” she added.

 

The gang, led by the suspect also seriously injured Owour’s son identified as Paul, who is currently recuperating at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu town.

 

Local leaders led by Muhoroni MP  James Onyango K’Oyoo and Kisumu  County Nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga have condemned the incident and demanded thorough investigations into the perennial ethnic animosity alleged incited by a clique of people.
