Market shades for traders in Nyando Sub County

Traders at Masogo/Nyang’oma ward in Nyando Sub County have a reason to smile after Kisumu County government built market shades to cushion them from harsh weather conditions.

The new development comes after the traders complained of their plight when selling their wares in open grounds where they are exposed to direct sunlight and rainfall.

The market that was put up at a cost of two million shillings will accommodate traders in ‘Onyalo biro’ magere market.

Market chairman Michael Aboge said the construction of the market will enable traders to access funds from financial institutions and government to grow their business.

“This market will enable us play a critical role in building the economy. It will also make us operate in an environment decent for business,” said Aboge.

He further noted that the project management team enabled the project to be completed in time and contractor paid without protests.

“Project management committees should be at every ward levels to spearhead sustainable projects at the grassroots. The committee did a good job to offer us market shades built decently,” said Aboge.

He added the county government should also construct latrines and install floodlights to enable them operate for longer hours and increase profits.

Ward manager Nicholas Adoyo who was present yesterday during the handing over ceremony said the project was implemented to the best standards.

The residents and traders also thanked the area MCA Habil Nyasuna for being in the forefront in guaranteeing the project was initiated and completed for their benefit.
