Transport along Embu- Meru highway was temporarily paralyzed for the better part of Monday morning at Kathageri area in Runyenjes constituency.
This is after angry residents barricaded the section of the highway following Sunday night robbery which left a watchman dead.
The attack also left two other watchmen nursing injuries, with one being hospitalized at Runyenjes level four hospital nursing serious injuries, while his counterpart is recuperating with minor injuries at home.
The demonstrating residents decried rampant insecurity in the area lamenting that last night’s case happened barely twenty metres from Kathageri police post.
The residents have called for closure of the police post and transfer of the police officers in the area accusing them of laxity.
They lamented that the area security team responds when an issue arises but they never hear of arrest and prosecution of the culprits.
They also cited that there have been several killings in the area and no steps have been taken to apprehend the murderers.
The area Member of Parliament Eric Muchangi and Kyeni North MCA Patrick Mukavi have condemned the heinous and brutal attack.
The two have called for speedy and thorough investigation of the incident bringing the culprits to face the full force of the law.
They have also called for transfer of the police officers accused for their laxity in dealing with rising cases of insecurity.
Embu East Deputy County Commissioner George Omolo and the assistant Sub county police commander Embu East Monica Mwarania had a hard time trying to calm the angry residents who matched to Kathageri police post.
The robbers struck at Kathageri shopping centre at around midnight, attacking the watchmen before leaving with goods of unknown value.
