Education institutions set to promote poultry production.

A non-governmental organisation plans to enter into partnership with education institutions in Siaya to promote poultry production in the County.
Speaking during an education stakeholders meeting in Siaya town, Hatching Hope Kenya business development officer, Thomas Ongogo said that the institutions, right from early childhood development centres, will be used to create awareness on production and consumption of poultry.
He said that the organisation will pilot the project in the county where 500 farmers will be involved.
“Poultry production is one of the ventures where all community members can be involved easily irrespective of gender or age,” said Ongogo.
Ongogo said that the NGO will liase with Equity and Kenya Commercial Banks to support interested farmers through loans to commercialise production of poultry in the county.
Speaking during the occasion, Siaya sub county early childhood development coordinator, Benter Jacob hailed the initiative, saying that it will not only enhance poultry production, but will also improve nutrition among residents.
She called for adoption of the project in all educational institutions to enable pupils and students learn the basics of poultry keeping.
