Residents of Kivaa ward in Masinga sub county of Machakos are a happy lot owing to the near completion of the massive Miangeni Dam.
The 150-million litres of water capacity dam is being constructed through funding by the county government of Machakos.
Speaking on Wednesday while on Covid-19 sensitisation tour in Kivaa ward, the Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua said the dam’s waters will be treated and distributed to towns and households in the area.
“Kivaa ward in Masinga has major water scarcity and this dam, like other major dams of Nthungululu in Ndalani Ward, Yatta and the Kibaoni dam in Mwala, also built by my Government, will help to alleviate water scarcity,” said Dr. Mutua.
“This dam is one of over 490 dams and weirs that my administration has constructed. The dams are in addition to the 503 solar powered boreholes and over 410 kilometres of piped water to households,” said Dr. Mutua.
The governor further reiterated that water is a right and not a privilege and that his government will continue to work hard to provide the residents with clean water.
“We have done a lot and the improvement has been massive, but much still remains to be done,” added Dr.
Mutua.
The Governor who also visited Kithyoko town and distributed facemasks manufactured by the Machakos Vocational Training Institutes further urged wananchi to take the Covid-19 pandemic seriously.
And in his tour of Matuu town, the county chief pledged to modernise the town’s roads and market.
