The government will de-register vehicle SACCOS who possess fake compliance certificates for Covid 19 in
Trans Nzoia.
Area County Commissioner (CC), Samson Ojwang was speaking Wednesday during a meeting with inter faith council and Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) in relation to opening of churches and Covid 19 guidelines.
The CC also raised issue with rural areas where residents were not taking personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the disease.
He directed DCCs to work closely with sub county administrators and officers under them to enforce the guidelines to stop the spread of the disease.
The CC regretted that people in the rural areas still believe the corona virus is for those in towns and noted that corona does not know any boundaries and is a deadly disease.
The meeting was co-chaired by area governor, Patrick Khaemba who hailed the cordial working relations with the national government in relation to fighting the pandemic
Governor Khaemba expressed fears of further spread of the disease if protocols put in place are not strictly followed.
The CEC for Health, Claire Wanyama decried lack of enough testing equipment that had hindered effective testing in the region.
She said the surging numbers in the county are worrying given that the health facilities may not be adequate to accommodate the patients.
“I am happy that some patients who are a symptomatic have embraced home based care and this might reduce the congestion at the isolation centre,” he said.
She said that out of 38 people who have tested positive in the area, 10 have been treated and discharged while 5 are under home based care and the rest are at Mt. Elgon isolation centre.
According to Wanyama, testing is being done at the county’s laboratory, adding that at least 2,500 residents especially those with symptoms to the virus and those seeking certificates have been tested.
The first case in the county was in June when a 14 year old girl who travelled from Mombasa through a truck tested positive.
The county response team has blamed residents for the casual attitude towards the disease, which has resulted to the surge in positive cases.
Also present was the Inter-faith County Chairman, Rev. Moses Wanyonyi of deliverance church and other Sub-county administrators.
