Korane launches drilling works for boreholes

The  Garissa Governor, Ali  Korane has commissioned the drilling works for three boreholes in Iftin ward aimed at ending perennial water shortage in seven centres within Garissa Township.

Speaking to the press at the project site  on Monday, Korane said he was committed to his pledge of ending water shortage in the fast growing Garissa municipality.

The  governor  said that Bulla Tawakal, Mzuri, Rahma and Bulla Bashal are among the centres targeted for the borehole projects that also entails construction of elevated steel tanks and pipeline extension.

Expressing his commitment towards the project, Korane said it is expected to be functional and supply water in the next three months.

Shortly before commissioning the Water project, the governor performed a ground breaking ceremony for the proposed Maji House building within Garissa town.

The project that is part of his legacy projects will address challenges of inadequate office space and better service delivery.

The Governor said the office will accommodate Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) together with the county department of Water and Irrigation.

“The County Headquarters and Afya House are almost complete and Maji House has kicked off to end shortage of office space. Once completed the funds paid in office rent will be mobilized for other tangible development,” Korane said.

“All these projects are meant to enhance service delivery and save on huge amount of money on rented premises for the county departments,” he added.

Meanwhile, Korane has reiterated his earlier call on the residents of Garissa County to be highly cautious of the Covid-19.

Korane said that there are no two ways about containing the disease other than observing the ministry of health set protocols.

“This is disease is highly contagious and could wreak havoc to societies. We must be extra careful. The disease has no cure and is claiming lives,” he noted.

He  was  accompanied  by the Garissa County Secretary, Abdi M Ali, Water county executive, Issa Oyow, Abdi Farah (Lands CEC), Roble Nunow ( Finance), the  Water  Chief  Officer, Ahmed Abdinoor and  the GAWASCO Manager, Yussuf  Mohamed among other county officials.
