Government urges youth to take advantage of empowerment programs

Youth in the country have been urged to take advantage of various government empowerment programmes aimed at uplifting their living standards.

The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs Nadia Ahmed challenged the youth to make good use of available opportunities created by the government to achieve economic strides.

Ms. Ahmed said the national government was committed towards advancement of youth agenda through programs such as Kazi Mtaani, Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF), Ajira Digital Youth Empowerment Programme (ADYED) and Presidential Digital Talent Development Youth Programme.

“The young people must seize the many opportunities and programs to better their lives and take ownership of their own destinies,” added Ms. Ahmed.

The CAS was speaking in Mombasa on Thursday during Youth Stakeholders Roundtable Conference that forms part of the National Youth Week activities throughout the country.

She noted that the targeted events will mainly focus on youth’s energy, innovations, initiatives and dynamism in engaging young people for global action.

This she said will culminate on 12th August where Kenya will join the whole world in marking the International Youth Week whose theme is ‘Youth Engagement for Global Action.’

Ahmed said youth are important component and key driver in the realization of the sustainable economic growth and achievement of the Big Four Agenda, Vision 2030 and other development programmes.

“The government remains committed to all efforts directed at the realization of the youth potential in nation building in line with our constitution,” She added.

She said the Kenya National Youth Development Policy that was recently approved by the cabinet is a crucial framework for responding to youth empowerment advancement across the country.

She asked youth actors and other stakeholders to start focusing on the key issues that will strengthen collaborations and help create and consolidate opportunities for youth.

The CAS affirmed the commitment by her Ministry to enhance engagement with other stakeholders towards the full realization of the youth empowerment agenda.
