ODM is the party to beat in 2022, legislators say

The Orange Democratic Movement will be the party to beat during the next general elections slated for 2022, two members of parliament have said.

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP, Oburu Odinga and Alego / Usonga legislator, Samuel Atandi said the close cooperation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has strengthened the party, placing it as the front runner in the next polls.

Dr. Oburu Odinga addressing the public that turned up to grace the occasion.

The two were speaking at Kowet police station in North Alego, Siaya County during the official opening of the facility which was constructed by the Alego- Usonga national government constituency development fund.

Oburu said ODM has previously performed well in the general elections but lack of support from the system has always blocked it from occupying the State House.

“Now that we are with Uhuru Kenyatta who is holding the system, who can beat us?” he posed.

Oburu, the elder brother to ODM party leader, Raila Odinga said that the former premier was well and recuperating at the Coast in readiness for the grueling task of ensuring the success of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Atandi said it was just a matter of time before the BBI is passed and called on Kenyans to support the document. He said that the friendship between Raila and Uhuru was permanent and meant to foster unity and development in the country.

“Do not fear, things will be well,” he said, adding that the changes in parliamentary committees was meant to ensure that the document sails through.

Atandi said ODM was focused on forming the next government and would use the handshake as a platform to achieve its goal.

During the occasion which was also attended by Siaya deputy county commissioner, Eric Wamulevu and a host of Members of the County Assembly, the two MPs called on the public to take information on Coronavirus seriously and adhere to the set protocols.
