More than 3,000 youth to benefit from Kazi mtaani social Protection Programme

At  least 3,204 youth and 214 supervisors in Busia County will be recruited to participate in the National Hygiene Programme also known as Kazi Mtaani.

Speaking to the press after a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday, the Busia County Commissioner (CC), Joseph Kanyiri explained that the Programme is funded by the National government to the tune of Sh. 10 billion across the country.

“The  programme will involve youth aged between 18 and 35 years who will be recruited through mobile applications within Busia and Teso South Sub Counties,” he said adding that recruitment exercise will kick off on Friday this week.

Kanyiri added that the application is open to both those with skilled and unskilled labour, adding that successful applicants will work for 11 days in a month.

“It will be a shift kind of work,” he said, adding that relevant departments from both the County and National government will agree on the projects to be worked on.

He further explained that the programme will last for six and a half months, adding that it is expected to give youth financial support during this COVID 19 pandemic.

The CC at the same time said that the recruits will be expected to carry their own tools of trade and adhere to the Ministry of Health directives at all times while on duty.

“We will not condone cheating through double registration,” he said adding that any recruit who engages in drunkenness will be immediately dismissed.

Successful applicants will be paid Sh. 455 per day through their registered Mpesa accounts.

The programme will be implemented in the informal settlements of Mauko, Marachi, Lukonyi, Maduwa and Samaki estates within Busia Municipality.
