The government has imposed a 6pm to 6am curfew at Mikululo area along the Makueni- Kajiado border after four people were killed and several injured in resurging clashes among the Kamba and Maasai communities.
The curfew is expected to quell the violence that occurred between the two communities following a dispute over pasture.
The attacks occurred last Friday and Sunday after young men allegedly from the Maasai community attacked homesteads belonging to Kambas along the border.
The injured were taken to Makindu sub county hospital and the Makueni county referral hospital. Two have been discharged so far while two others are still receiving treatment.
The government has also sent officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Response Unit (RDU) to ensure that normalcy returns in the area that has witnessed cyclic violence.
The resolutions were announced on Monday by the Makueni County Commissioner (CC), Maalim Mohammed during a crisis meeting attended by local leaders and residents. Also in attendance was Kajiado County Commissioner, Joshua Nkanatha.
“From 6pm today (Monday) I expect every one of you to be in your houses. The police will carry out an operation in the area if you flout the curfew, you will be taken in as a suspect,” warned Mohammed.
The CC also said a 20-member peace committee that had been formed last year following similar attacks in the area will be revived to ensure peace prevails.
Mohammed also directed county criminal investigation officers from the two counties to ensure the people involved in the spate of attacks are arrested and prosecuted.
He warned government officers against being biased in their execution of duties after the residents pointed an accusing finger at a DCI officer in Makindu of being partisan.
Led by Wiper nominated MCA, Urbanus Wambua the residents said they had been patient enough and called for a lasting solution.
Speaking at the same event, Kajiado CC said that a buffer zone should be created between the two communities to end the violence.
In July last year, two people were killed due to the land dispute in the area and several houses were torched during the incident.
