Over 3,700 youth to secure jobs under the Kazi Mtaani Programme

A  total 3,723 youth in Turkana county are set to benefit from the Kazi mtaani programme that will see each of them take home Sh.445 daily for the next six and a half months.

Addressing  the press in his office when he held a meeting with the committee overseeing the programme, the Turkana County Commissioner (CC), Muthama  Wambua  said 3,490 of the beneficiaries will be engaged as casuals working under 233 supervisors.

The  program will be implemented within Lodwar municipality.

“The youth will be employed under the Nyumba Kumi committees to ensure only the most vulnerable are employed,” said Wambua.

He added that the recruitment process will start  on Tuesday July  7  and successful applicants are expected to report to work next week.

The  administrator added that chiefs would also be involved in the process to ensure that not more than one member from the same household is recruited.

“We only want the most deserving people to be recruited and therefore households where they have a member in gainful employment would not be considered,” he added.

The  successful applicants would work in two rotational shifts of 11 days.

Each  supervisor would be in charge of 15 youth.

In  terms of payment, the CC  said they would be required to submit their Safaricom mobile phone lines registered with mobile money transfer system Mpesa with correct details where they shall receive their dues.

He at the same time warned them against using other people’s mobile lines citing incidents from other parts of the country where youth with loans from the telephony operator commonly known as Fuliza had given other people’s mobile phone numbers to avoid deduction of loans.

Needy people who are beneficiaries of other cash transfers programmes like Inua Jamii would be not be considered.
