The World Bank (WB) has lauded Makueni County Government’s commitment to the public participation approach in implementation of government projects.
Speaking during the Monitoring and Evaluation exercise of World Bank (WB) funded projects in the county Wednesday, the Vice President, Sheila Redzepi appreciated the level of civic education and public participation in government programmes.
Ms. Redzepi said that devolution has played a big role in development and enhancing of service delivery to the locals in the area.
The vice president urged the government to exercise prudence in utilization of public resources and appealed to the devolved unit to invest more in basic education.
“I call on the county government to maintain vigilance and efficiency in provision of services to wananchi to foster development,” said Redzepi.
The Makueni County Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Health, Dr. Andrew Mulwa hailed the partnership between World Bank and county government in the health sector.
He said through the funding of WB, the county has rolled out universal health care project that currently covers over 80, 000 residents, upgraded ten health facilities, and established a trauma centre at Makindu to offer psycho-social support to accident victims along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
He also disclosed that the county government courtesy of World Bank was in the process of setting up a 120 bed capacity mother and child unit at the Makueni Referral Hospital.
“The mother and child unit will ensure that mothers will give birth in hospitals and reduce both maternal and infant mortality besides enhancing family planning uptake and child immunization,” said Dr. Mulwa.
On drugs, Dr. Mulwa revealed that the county government would ensure continuous supply of medicine to all health facilities.
