The  Busia County Commissioner (CC), Joseph Kanyiri has expressed concern over the high level of disregard to the Ministry of Health Guidelines towards the control of COVID 19 pandemic.

Speaking to KNA in his office on Monday, Kanyiri noted that 99% of traders did not wear face masks with 90% of those who buy goods from the market failing to adhere to the Ministry of Health directive.

“Within the boda boda sector, almost 95% do not wear face masks,” he said adding that police officers should continue arresting the suspects and taking them to court.

He  explained that flouting the directives may lead to loss of many lives across the country and its neighbors.

“We may be forced to consult with the County government before we close the markets with a view to protect lives,” he said.

The  CC at the same time, urged elderly men to stop engaging in intimate relationships with young girls but instead allow them to pursue their education.

“We have noted that some parents are so harsh to their children hence propelling them to run away from home,” he said.

Kanyiri  urged parents to sensitize their daughters to abstain from sexual relationships until they are mature enough to get married.

He  warned families against solving cases of defilement out of court, adding that it is against the law.
