A Kenya certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Atemo mixed secondary school in Rachuonyo East Sub County Tuesday night died under unclear circumstances.
Toddy Otieno Ouma 18, collapsed and died when he was playing football with other candidates in a pitch within the school compound in Atemo village, Kojwach East location just after sitting for Monday papers.
According to the area Chief Mr. James Oindi, the deceased suddenly collapsed in the pitch moments after informing his fellow students that he was feeling weak.
The playmates said the candidate had earlier shown no signs of ill health that could have resulted to his death.
The administrator said the student was rushed to Atemo Mission Hospital for first aid but was later transferred to Matata Hospital in Oyugis Town for specialized treatment and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Chief Oindi also confirmed that the student was in good health since the beginning of the National exams and that Tuesday he was normal and sat his Kiswahili and Geography papers without any problem.
Oindi said the cause of the death was yet to be established. The body was moved to Matata Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile a female KCSE candidate at Got Bura Secondary School in Suba South Constituency is currently sitting her papers at St Camillus Hospital where she delivered but unfortunately the infant died shortly after delivery.
Homa Bay County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the two incidents.
