Top  Security  Officials  will  be reshuffled in Nyandarua County as a measure to beef up security in the area, the Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Fred Matiang’i has said.

Dr. Matiang’i, while regretting a series of murders particularly in Ol Jororok Constituency, where eleven lives had been lost to hackers in six months, said the changes would be geared to bringing the culprits to book and affording the residents the much sought sleep.

“There is a special homicide team that will be closely monitored by Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai and we are in hot pursuit of the attackers.

“This is an assurance that we will do our best and this is necessary to make this area secure for the people,” said Dr. Matiang’i, who led a high-ranked delegation of leaders in a meeting at the Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology on Monday evening.

The  victims of the murders in Ol Jororok, particularly women and girls, have been raped then hacked to death, in what police attribute to love triangles and land disputes.

On April 23, 2020 Eunice Muthoni Ndung’u, 30, and her five-year-old daughter succumbed to injuries inflicted by the attacker(s) while undergoing treatment at the Nyahururu County Referral hospital.

Unknown assailant(s) dug through the wall of her house where the two and other children were sleeping at their Chekaleri village home, Ol Joro Orok, and attacked them. The attackers are yet to be arrested and charged.

Elsewhere ,following increased cases of housebreaking in Botswana Road area of Kiamumbi location in Kiambu County, residents have appealed to the police to intensify their patrols in their region.

The residents say idleness by the young men in the area was causing them sleepless nights and that they feared venturing into their daily activities even during daytime for fear of their houses would being broken into.

According to the residents, thieves are on the prowl and have been harassing them both day time and at night by breaking into their houses and stealing valuables from therein.

Josephine Nyambura told KNA on Monday that the thieves broke into her house in March 2020 and stole valuables which included electronics and her gas cooker. “I had just left my house and gone to work when they broke into my house and made away with my goods”

She said she lived alone and that she usually locked her house whenever she went about her errands during the day.

Nancy  Njoki told KNA she too had lost her property in broad daylight and that despite her report at Kiamumbi police station, no recovery has been made to date. She showed KNA her report which she made to Kiamumbi police station but confessed that she had never returned to make a follow up and so she was not sure if anything was ever recovered.

According to the residents, at least 10 houses had been broken into and property stolen. Even chicken was not spared and they believe there was a good market for the birds especially from the beginning of the year.

On her part, the Officer Commanding Kiamumbi Police Station, Ms. Francisca Nginya yesterday cautioned the residents to properly secure their homes so as to deter the thieves from accessing at will.

“At times the complainants have revealed whenever they reported incidents that they were not sure if they properly secured their houses when the thieves stole from their houses” she noted.

She also said the police officers in the station were doing their best to ensure that peace and order was maintained and that it was upon them to do their part. Patrols are done as required and the officers cover their jurisdiction properly but of course police officers cannot be in all the homes at all the times,” she clarified.

She added that upon reporting some incidents, some residents did not make a follow up with the station to know if anything was recovered. “At times after arresting someone who appeared suspicious, we cannot go to his house and take away everything from the suspect’s house that nobody had complained had been stolen.”
