Some 3000 senior citizens in Kesses constituency and 400 athletes will be supplied with food support for the next one month to cushion them from the effects of Covid-19, area MP, Dr. Swarup Mishra has said.
In addition, Mishra said some 400 athletes will also be supplied with food for one month courtesy of himself, the Athletics Kenya and elite athletes, including Eliud Kipchoge.
Speaking on Monday while distributing 8000 bottles of hand sanitizers to 3000 bodaboda operators and Mama mboga traders at his Kenmosa offices, the MP said most of the old population have been adversely impacted on by the pandemic.
“Our athletes who depended on races to earn a living have also been affected since all races were put on hold due to the Corona virus and that is why we need to support them during their time of need,” said Dr. Mishra.
“The Virus would be with us for a long time and the only way to achieve a flat curve from the infection is to strictly follow the ministry of health directives including sanitizing and washing hands with soap and running water as well as maintaining social distance. It is also important for everyone to properly put on a facemask particularly in public places,” he advised.
The legislator regretted the ‘don’t care’ attitude being exhibited by many people as they went about daily activities and reminded them that Corona was a deadly disease. “You must take the stipulated precautions seriously to avoid more infections,” he stressed.
“We are giving out the sanitizers to over 3000 bodaboda riders and mama mboga in over 100 market places within the four wards in Kesses constituency as a preventive measure to minimize the spread of Covid-19.
