Suspected bandits kill four people in Saku constituency

An intensive manhunt for suspected bandits believed to be behind the killing of four herdsmen in Kukuto area in Marsabit Central of Marsabit County is underway.

The four herders were gunned down after they were attacked by unknown number of armed bandits on Saturday afternoon as they trekked to a water point in Sagante ward of Saku constituency.
Confirming the 2pm incident, Marsabit Central sub-county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the incident which has shocked local residents happened near Jaica wells, adding that the victims died on the spot.
Mr Mwanthi added that the attackers escaped soon after committing the crime prompting a manhunt which he said would be sustained until the culprits were brought to book.
“Serious investigations into the incident that include pursuit for the suspects has started in earnest, so that they can face the full force of the law,” the commander said.
The killings bring the number of casualties from banditry attacks involving use of illicit guns in Marsabit County to 24 in the last one week.
These include 4 youths among them 3 university students in Songa-Badassa area and about 10 in Badan-Rero.
The incident comes barely seven months after 13 people including 3police officers were shot dead in the same area against a background of illegal firearm mop up exercise by the government.
