Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Secretary General Wilson Sossion has appealed to the Church to be in the fore front in instilling moral values in children from a tender age.

Sossion said the rising cases of teenage pregnancies was alarming and showed moral decadence in the society and called for urgent intervention by the church.

“The rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the country is alarming. I want to appeal to the church to be on the forefront in preaching good morals. Without the church we cannot raise good citizens,” he said.

Sossion made the remarks on Sunday in Kajiado town during celebrations to mark the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Silver Jubilee in the region.

He further appealed to parents to ensure that they take their children to church from an early age, so that they can grow up to be morally upright and learn to fear God.

Sossion said the alarming pregnancies among school girls will eventually make the country slide into hopelessness in the near future, as children were becoming wayward and engaging in immoral behavior at a tender age.

Sossion’s remarks were supported by ACK Archbishop, the Right Reverend Jackson ole Sapit, Kajiado Central MP, Memusi Kanchory and Governor Joseph Lenku, along with host Bishop,Gadiel Lenini.

Kajiado Central legislator, Memusi Kanchory reiterated Sossion’s remarks and urged the Church to use its influence to shape morals in the society.

He called on the church to talk to parents and guardians on how to raise their children to fear God and to be morally upright.

Kanchory noted that a society without good morals cannot progress and it was sad to see young girls being turned into mothers at an early age, as their education is cut short.

“I want to call on the Church to use its influence in the society to shape our children’s morals. If our morals are not right then as a country we will not reach far,” he said.

The M.P further appealed to the Church to be on the forefront in fighting corruption and not to accept “dirty” money from politicians in the name of building their churches if they want to grow in clean spirit.
