Vihiga County government sets aside Sh12million for cultural centres

Vihiga County government plans to allocate Sh12 million towards construction of at least four cultural centres.

Vihiga Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi who is also the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Services
made the revelation when laid a foundation stone for construction of Tiriki Cultural Centre in Hamisi Sub County on Thursday.
According to Saisi, the county executive committee had already developed and ratified a blueprint for the four cultural centres.

“The County government will set aside Sh3millon for each of the four proposed Cultural Centres,” disclosed Saisi who also laid the foundation stone for construction of Mungoma Cultural Centre in South Maragoli
Ward in Vihiga Sub County last week.
Besides, Mungoma and Tiriki, the other two are Abanyore and Terik Cultural Centres.
“The main objective is to preserve our people’s traditions, customs, artifacts and cultural heritage for future prosperity,” said the former Moi
University don.
He added the centres would be part of the county’s tourist attraction site, thus enable the local government collect more revenue.
“Apart from the centres being the main custodian of the county’s rich tradition and cultural knowledge, they will also attract both local and international tourists and scholars,” said Saisi.
Speaking at the event, Chief Officer in charge of Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Services Mr. Dominic Luvavo said construction works at the four centres would be completed next year.
“The launch for Abanyore and Terik cultural centres will be done soon,” said Luvavo.
