A night guard working at a hardware shop along the Sankuri road in Garissa town was early this morning murdered in cold blood by unknown persons as he conducted his al-fajir prayers.
Shocked fellow faithful who had passed by en-route to a nearby mosque for prayer said they had left the deceased making the formal ritual preparations for prayer using a small jerrican of water only to find him lying dead in a pool of blood upon returning.
According to an eye witness, they saw from a distance two motor cycles fleeing from the scene and on arrival at the spot they discovered that the night guard had been killed.
Area MCA Abdirizak Ismail said this is the third grisly murder of night guards within a span of three weeks to occur in Garissa town.
“Police should intensify patrols as they investigate these incidents. Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i should declare a shoot to kill order for robbers to tame the runaway crime in the country,” Abdirizak said.
The MCA urged the residents to desist from defending suspects because they come from their clan and instead allow the police to prosecute suspects.
One of the staff at the hardware accused the bodaboda operators for abetting crime by working with and transporting thugs.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage at the hardware in a bid to establish the identity of the two robbers which according to preliminary report indicate that they were two in number.
Nothing was stolen from the shop despite them breaking the grills and gaining entry into the hardware.
They were however unable to break the safe that had an unspecified amount of money.
The name of the deceased could not be revealed as next of kin had not been informed.
