Broadways Group of Company on Wednesday donated 500 bales of wheat flour to the Makueni County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee for distribution to vulnerable families.
Director Bimal Shah said the donation worth Sh625, 000 of wheat flour is meant to support vulnerable families who have been impacted negatively by the covid-19 pandemic.
He said the company has donated Sh25 million which is inclusive of Sh12.5 million of wheat flour to 15 counties and Sh7.5 million to the National Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund and another Sh5 million to Kiambu county.
“Many people have lost livelihoods due to the pandemic and the donation is a way of giving back to the society,” said the director.
He lauded the Makueni government for initiating several development projects including the Mango processing plant and his company pledged support to the County Government to spur development.
“We are ready to support and share ideas with the county government to spur development and create jobs,” said Mr. Shah.
He said the company will soon launch a campaign on diabetes in the county to create awareness about the disease.
The director noted that diabetes was the number one killer in the country and said that the campaign dubbed be “Sugar Smart” is aimed at sensitizing residents on the danger of the disease.
“Diabetes is on the increase in Kenya and there is need for Kenyans to take into consideration what they consume,” he said
Speaking during the same occasion, Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana thanked the company for the donation, which he said, was a boon to the beneficiaries.
He hailed the company for putting nutritional value of their products at the forefront and urged other manufacturers and companies to replicate the same in their products.
“Even the packaging of Broadways Group is environmentally friendly,” said Kibwana.
On the diabetes campaign, the governor welcomed the move saying the county will partner with the company to conduct massive testing in all 235 health facilities across the county.
He said the county government is willing to partner with the company to pursue development that will help create employment.
“This is a relationship we have started and hope to develop further,” said the governor.
