Leaders urge residents to step up efforts to keep virus at bay.

Siaya leaders have called on area residents not to drop their guard in ensuring that coronavirus is kept away from the county.

Siaya County Assembly speaker, George Okode, deputy County Commissioner, Joseph Sawe and member of the county assembly, Leonard Oriaro said it was only through strict adherence to the stipulated guidelines that the public will be safe.

They were speaking at Nyalula Secondary school in Siaya on Wednesday while launching a sh. 3.4 million coronavirus protection campaign in Central Alego ward.
The campaign is sponsored by area MCA, Leonard Oriaro and will entail distribution of face masks, bar soaps and sugar to the vulnerable members of the community.

Mr. Sawe said that the government meant well for its residents and would do all it could to ensure that the effects of the virus was kept at minimum in the country.

He said the established protocols were not meant to punish anybody, adding that the public must help the government in this war by volunteering information on anybody who compromises anti-coronavirus initiatives.

The speaker of the County Assembly hailed the MCA for the initiative and called on local leaders to synergise the war against the spread of the virus by supporting the government.

Addressing the occasion, Oriaro said that the initiative targets 10,000 vulnerable residents of Central Alego ward.

He said that the initiative will distribute 10 tons of sugar, 6.3 tons of bar soaps and 10,000 face masks to the residents.

Oriaro hailed the office of the county commissioner and the governor’s office for supporting his initiative.
