A primary school teacher collapsed and died on the spot in an eatery at Daraja Mbili open air market in Kisii county.
The eatery was for a while turned into a mourning scene as shocked residents flocked the premises to witness the incident.
Eye witnesses said the teacher feebly walked into the eatery, sat at a table and asked to be served with water before he collapsed and died.
A medical card perhaps hinting the deceased might have been on medication was retrieved from the body.
The spectators were urged to refrain from speculating on the cause of his death but to instead wait for expertise report.
Paul Matoya, the man in charge of the market urged members of the public to act promptly and assist the sick get medical attention when they are overwhelmed.
He advised them to go for medical examinations periodically to establish their health status in view of current emerging diseases
The incident disrupted business as residents gathered in groups to discuss the matter.
The body of the teacher who was aged above 50 years was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting post mortem.
