Relatives of patients admitted at the Kiambu Level 5 hospital have reportedly been disobeying the social distance directive when they visited their patients during visiting hours.
A check by KNA this week found out that the visitors to the patients have been flocking and crowding the entry gate in total disregard of the Government directive aimed at protecting themselves from infection of corona virus disease.
The visitors who are adamant have also disregarded instructions not to go to the health facility in droves to visit their ailing friends and relatives.
Contacted for comment, the hospital administrator, Eston Mbuthia noted that he was not aware of the issue as there was no complaint from the security manning the gate.
Mr. Mbuthia however told KNA that he would liaise with the officer in charge of security to ensure that the visitors were made to observe social distancing as they waited to be ushered inside the hospital premises.
As a measure to contain the spread of the virus in March the hospital administration reduced the number of visitors intending to visit a patient to one.
Kiambu Hospital Medical superintendent Dr. .Patrick Nyaga explained to KNA that the institution had opted for the reduction of the visitors to the patients saying, they were being attended by health experts and were in safe hands.
He said if any visitor was infected, he/she could easily infect the patient whose immune system was already low from the existing disease. “It is important that a patient is only seen by one visitor at ago,” he said.
The hospital also relocated the casualty section and patients are now been attended to in 6 large tents at the parking yard where they can observe social distance.
