Kisii County members of County Assembly have passed a sh 15m supplementary budget to fund county activities geared towards combating the Covid-19 disease in the area.
The budget was weeded from the amount meant to build a County Assembly complex after the need for urgency in combating the spread of the global pandemic which has so far led to over 600 infections and over 20 deaths in the country.
Addressing the press after unveiling a 300 hundred bed capacity quarantine facility for holding covid-19 regulations law breakers at Kisii Boys National School yesterday, Governor Ongwae applauded the MCAs for the bold step saying it was the first assembly in the country to support the executive during the pandemic.
Ongwae said the facility was established to relieve the local medical training facility among other quarantine areas in the sub counties to hold only those quarantined following health reasons.
The Kisii School facility has 150 beds for women and equal number for men.
He said a total of 20 schools were also identified as quarantine facilities in case of a worst case scenario. There are 2 schools in each sub-county all with a bed capacity totaling 1000.
Area County Commissioner Stephen Kihara appealed to chiefs to make sure those attending burials adhere to social distancing which demands that only 15 people attend the ceremonies.
“We have realised that life has gone back to normal in the villages and it is demanded that chiefs issue burial permits as per the directives,” said Kihara.
The CC ordered all hotel business managers to obey the regulations and called upon the public to report any malpractices by sending alerts to the availed ‘mlikanamba’ 908 which will reach the relevant authorities for action.
County Police Commander Jebel Munene cautioned those bent towards disobeying the health protocols of wearing masks in public places and curfew laws that they risked being candidates of the newly unveiled quarantine facility at their own cost as they await legal action.
This comes even as the 11 entry border screening points hit 400,000 screening using a thermo gun of which no one has tested positive to symptoms of covid-19.
