Bondo Covid 19 team distributes relief aid to vulnerable households

The  Bondo Sub County Covid-19 response committee has begun the distribution of donations from well-wishers to the vulnerable households in the region.

According to area MP, Dr. Gideon Ochanda who is the patron of the committee they will be distributing the donations on a weekly basis to all the 27 sub-locations in Bondo as they continue to receive other donations from well-wishers.

Ochanda who addressed the press during the distribution of donation which included foodstuff, cooking oil soaps and sanitizers to 20 vulnerable households from Nyawita sub-location said the donations will cushion the beneficiaries from economic crunch occasioned by government directives aimed at controlling the spread of corona virus.

He disclosed that so far they have already received donations both in cash and inform of goods from the business and the Muslim community in Bondo as well as from individuals but there is need for more donations from well-wishers since the vulnerable population is large.

The legislator said that the response committee intends to reach out to other stakeholders and influential individuals who hail from the region to boost the kitty.

He disclosed that as an individual he has already donated more than 300 sacks of maize and about 100 sacks of beans to support the course.

Ochanda  who was flanked by area Assistant County Commissioner (ACC), Michael  Too said the Covid-19 response committee is working closely with the administrators and the social services department to ensure that only deserving cases benefit from the donation.

He, on the other hand, cautioned beneficiaries from selling items they have received as donation, saying individuals and other well-wishers have sacrificed to share the little they have during the difficult times.

“The food items you have received are enough to support you for the next one month. Nobody should be found selling what they have received as this would discourage other well-wishers from donating support to the kitty” Ochanda warned.

Too who represented the committee chairman disclosed that the committee targets to support at least 540 households during the entire exercise.

He said that due to limited resources, the committee had agreed to identify at least 20 vulnerable households from each of the 27 sub location to be supported by the kitty.
