Police in Moyale Thursday netted 750 kilograms of bhang with a street market value of Sh75 million from a house in Manyatta Burji area.
Four suspects were detained and an Isuzu pick up registration number KCG 473 G confiscated during the 5pm operation.
Moyale Police Commander Anthony Nderitu while speaking to KNA Friday said they had received a tip off from members of the public and the local Nyumba Kumi initiative that they had been suspecting offloading of drugs at the homestead of a one Wote Guyo for a while and alerted police, when the suspects came to deposit their cargo.
“When the officers were called they raided the house and nabbed the narcotics which were stacked in sacks and some wrapped in some polythene bags and managed to arrest four suspects namely Mohammed Chute, 28, Abdullahi Walata, 32, Hussein Wote Gay, 28 and Mohammed Wote Gay, 25, but the owner of the residence is still on the run, but soon we are going to arrest him,” said Nderitu.
The police commander said that the government will not allow bhang trade in the area and warned those involved that their time was up, saying nobody would be spared in the fight against crime.
He cautioned law enforcement agents who are the custodians of the law against engaging in drug trafficking which the government has declared a total war against.
The arrests come less than two months after a senior KDF officer and two prison warders were arrested while trafficking in bhang in two separate incidents.
Eastern Regional Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said that proceeds from drug trafficking were being used to fund criminal activities including terrorism.
He said boda boda operators are also being used to ease movement of criminals who are trafficking the drugs but was quick to say that the law will take its cause.
Nderitu warned law enforcement officers involved in drug trafficking that they will be dealt with ruthlessly.
The suspects will be arraigned in court Monday
