Back flow of water from Lake Victoria has continued to cause havoc among farmers along Lake Victoria in Homa Bay County.
The rising water from Lake Victoria has caused massive destruction of crops along the lake which are now flooded with water apart from displacing several families at various beaches in the region.
In Arujo location of Homa Bay Town constituency, Thomas Ogolla, a farmer in the area says that they are counting losses after water from the lake moved to their farms and destroyed their crops.
Speaking to KNA, Ogolla lamented that more than half of their farms along Lake Victoria are submerged by excess water from Lake Victoria and varieties of their crops washed away into the lake leaving them with no yield to look forward to in the farms.
Ogolla added that the trend is likely to affect food security in the county because most crops that were planted along the beaches in the region have been destroyed.
At the same time Ogolla further stated that dairy farmers have experienced challenges and milk production has also reduced because of reduced feed to animals since grazing fields along the lake are all submerged.
