Uasin Gishu County Sets up COVID-19 Screening Points

Individuals violating the curfew and social distancing in Uasin Gishu County will be quarantined for 14 days at their own cost, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa has warned.
He said a holding centre has been set up at Kaplelach secondary school and already some individuals found flouting the curfew are being quarantined at the centre.
Speaking Monday when the county launched screening points where all individuals entering the county along the Nakuru-Webuye-Uganda highway will be scanned.
Jaldesa called on the residents to respect measures introduced by the government, including the dawn to dusk curfew and social distancing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
“It is sad that a number of people have been quarantined at the Kaplelach centre for failing to respect the curfew and wish to warn any other individual who will be found loitering during the curfew hours that we shall not hesitate to put them under quarantined for risking themselves and other people to the Coronavirus,” said the CC.
On the screening centres, Jaldesa said the county response committee decided to initiate the screening considering that the county was a transit county where travelers from as far as Mombasa and neighbouring Uganda traverse, making the county a risk point.
He assured that the county has enough officers including chiefs and other security personnel who will be working with health personnel at the screening centres to ensure everybody entering the county is screened.
The first screening centre will be at Burnt Forest-Lessos junction and the other will be at Turbo trading centre.
He at the same time assured the residents of Eldoret town and its environs that security patrols have been significantly increased to ensure adequate security during the curfew period.
“It is true increased cases of insecurity have been reported in some estates since the curfew started, but I wish to assure the residents that security patrols have been intensified to contain the cases,” he said.
The county commissioner’s assurance comes in the backdrop of two deaths that occurred Sunday night.
A middle aged man was stabbed on the neck last evening at Mwanzo estate as he was entering his gate at around 7.20pm. Neighbours were unable to assist immediately due to the curfew restrictions. He was later pronounced death on arrival at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) due to excessive bleeding.
At the same time, a headless body of a man was found at Kiplombe area Monday morning.
According to residents the headless body was found in the morning and on searching, the head was found 30 metres away.
They suspect the man was murdered elsewhere and the body dump in a ditch in the area.
