A three-year old boy lost his life while four others escaped death narrowly after their houses submerged in mudslide at Pambanic area, Ololulunga Ward in Narok South Sub-county.
Confirming the Saturday night’s incident, Narok South Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Felix Kisalu, said the affected was a family of five who were sleeping in their house when heavy rains started pounding the area causing the mudslide.
“The injured included three children and their mother who were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital where they are battling for their lives. It is unfortunate that they lost their lastborn son in the incident,” he said.
Kisalu called on the residents to be vigilant during this rainy season and avoid areas deemed to be prone to mudslides or floods to avoid loss of lives.
Ololulunga Ward Member of County Assembly, Mr. Jefferson Langat, asked Red Cross organisation and well-wishers to give donations to the affected families in the area as many have been forced to move from their homes to seek refuge on upper grounds.
“The rains come as a blessing, but we too should be very careful that the rains do not cause havoc, especially this season of long rains,” said Mr. Kisalu.
In a past event, Narok County Governor, Samuel Tunai, asked residents to be careful during this rainy season as the County is prone to flooding and mudslide.
“Prevention is better than cure. We have all been praying for the rains and when they come, we should move to safe grounds where our property cannot be swept by the raging waters,” said Tunai.
In the year 2018, two children aged five and seven years lost their lives and their parents injured after their house was submerged in a mudslide at Ol-shapani area in Narok South Sub- county.
