Traders whose structures were demolished to be relocated

Traders in Kisumu County whose  shops and kiosks were pulled down by Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) recently will be relocated to a new modern market.

This is according to Kisumu Deputy Governor, Mathew  Owili  who said the affected business people had incurred huge losses.

The  crackdown saw over 300 illegal structures along Kisumu-Nairobi highway demolished in a bid to reclaim encroached road reserve. Some residential houses were not spared either.

The traders alleged that KeNHA had issued them with a short notice to relocate and requested the County government to render a helping hand.

Owili  said the new market was near completion and would serve some of the affected business people in Awasi and Kondele trading centres.

He  was speaking in Kisumu town Tuesday during an inspection tour of several projects initiated by the County government in the region.
