Police in Narok town have arrested eleven persons who were holding a party inside a closed bar in Narok town on Tuesday night.
The Narok County Commissioner (CC), Samuel Kimiti said the eleven revelers were nabbed after a tip off from the residents.
Kimiti who spoke to KNA in his office on Thursday lamented that despite a lot of public awareness on the deadly Coronavirus and how it spreads quickly from one person to another; some residents were not keen on the importance of keeping social distance.
“It is unfortunate that some of us are still going to crowded places, engaging in social parties and not keeping social distances even though the government has warned citizens against this. I want to caution everyone that we will not relent in arresting all who fail to adhere to the guidelines in place,” said Kimiti.
The CC took issue with the taxi and matatu operators in the town whom he accused of not following the laid down procedures.
He said many vehicles had been impounded for carrying passengers exceeding the set numbers and others crowding at the stage despite set arrangements of having one vehicle at a time to pick passengers at the stage.
“We are not here to joke, we want everybody to take care of him/herself because the disease is spreading at an alarming rate. The police will continue carrying out impromptu visits to the town just to ensure that people follow the set guidelines,” said the County administrator.
At the same time, the CC advised all residents to wear facemasks while in public places as advised by the Ministry of Health.
However, taxi and matatu operators in the town have complained over police harassment and inadequate space to park their vehicles.
“We are all competing for limited space to park our vehicles. When you tell us to keep social distance even in stage, we wonder if that is possible,” said a driver who sought anonymity.
