The Kisii County Government has launched screening for Covid-19 on all its 11 entry points in a bid to combat the spread of the disease which has been declared a global pandemic.
Speaking at Getare on the Kisii-Kisumu route, Tuesday, Governor James Ongwae, said health personnel will be deployed to all the points fully equipped with thermometers to take body temperature of commuters entering the County.
Ongwae who was accompanied by area County Commissioner(CC), Stephen Kihara, County Executive (CEC) Health, Sarah Omache and the County Police Commander, Jebel Munene, among others urged commuters on such roads to cooperate for their own good and that of the whole county residents.
CC Kihara noted that a system has been developed for public transporters to enter details of their passengers to ease tracing of contacts in case of infection.
He cited a previous case where efforts to trace commuters of some transport means became difficult after one person was found positive for covid-19.
“We will work with managers of various Matatu SACCOs to reach all drivers to ensure for safety and traceability of all commuters and through their contacts,” noted Kihara.
Other screening points are Miruka, on Kisii-Nyamira Route, Ruga on Oyugis-Kisii route, Keroka on Keroka -Ramasha route, and Nyangusu on Kilgoris-Kisii Route among others.
Governor Ongwae later, at Agricultural Training Institute, launched the distribution of 3,000 liters of hand-sanitizers and 1,000 face masks donated by well-wishers for Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
Revealing that 31 cases had so far been tested in the County where all had come out negative, Ongwae appealed to residents not to relent in adhering to the measures put in place to prevent the spread, including regular washing of hands, sanitising and wearing of face masks in public places.
