Residents urged not to shun hospitals because of Coronavirus

Hospitals have been recording low turnout of patients since the advent of Coronavirus, a reproductive health expert, Dr. Elizabeth Omondi has said.

And the medic is now calling on Siaya residents not to fear seeking treatment at the health facilities for fear of being found infected with the virus.

Speaking to the media in Siaya town, Dr. Omondi lamented that hospital deliveries in the county have gone down, an indication that expectant mothers were avoiding health facilities.

“Expectant mothers are not visiting hospitals due to the fear of Coronavirus leading to reduction in the number of deliveries in hospitals,” she said.

She urged expectant mothers to continue visiting health facilities as adequate measures have been taken to ensure both their safety and that of their babies.

The medic, who is also a lecturer at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology said that healthcare services that include immunisation of children are ongoing, adding that suspected Covid 19 cases are always handled professionally and isolated in holding rooms.

Dr. Omondi called on parents to ensure that their children do not expose themselves to the virus through play, adding that this was the time for parents to spend most of their time with the children and understand them better.
