MYWO Rolls Out Covid-19 Sensitization Drive

The Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) will have her elected leaders and members sensitize the public on the need to protect themselves from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chairperson Maendeleo ya Wanawake (MYWO) addressing the press at MYWO headquarters, Maendeleo House Wednesday on the measures the organisation is taking to flatten the Covid -19 curve in the country.

MYWO Chairperson Rahab Muiu said, “As an organisation, we will identify our members to be trained as community health volunteers to support in the distribution of masks, other protective equipment and even food supplies if and when such services will be required,” said Muiu.
Addressing a press conference at Maendeleo ya Wanawake headquarters at Maendeleo House Wednesday, the Chairperson said MYWO as a leadership of women in the country and custodians of families and communities, will play their role of mitigating the progression of the pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Health, at least10, 000 Kenyans could be infected with the virus by the end of April this year.
She called on all MYWO leaders and members from the wards, sub counties and counties to be in the forefront in observing the social distancing and promoting hygiene as stipulated by the government.
“I am calling upon all women to go the extra mile to sensitise other members in our communities on the hygiene guidelines as women are the first doctors at home. This will help in flattening the curve,” said Muiu.
She at the same time urged the young people to stay at home, saying that the virus is serious and requires them to make extraordinary adjustments to the lifestyles they are accustomed to.
Muiu expressed MYWO’s support to President Uhuru Kenyatta for the interventions he has made to cushion Kenyans from the pandemic and the ministry of health’s efforts to arrest the situation.
