Residents of Matungulu, county of Machakos have a reason to smile after the County Government launched a Level Two hospital facility at Kyaume Sub-location in Matungulu Sub-county.

Speaking Wednesday, during the launch, Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua lauded the contractor for the good work, adding that the need for constructing more health facilities closer to the community cannot be ignored.

“I have called for our contractors to adopt a 24 hour work schedule on our county projects. This will bring us much closer to a 24 hour economy and help us fast-track our development agenda,” said Dr. Mutua.

“My government continues to invest heavily in healthcare. From construction of more facilities, equipping the existing ones and staffing them,” added Dr. Mutua.

According to the Governor, over 1.9 million residents have been treated under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which translate to a 40 per cent rise in the patient population in the county’s 400 health facilities.

“Facilities such as our Machakos Cancer Centre, Renal Unit and our excellent maternity services have continued to bring more patients, even from across our county borders, with over 630,000 patients served by our fleet of ambulances,” said Dr. Mutua, adding that “a healthy nation is a productive nation.”

The Governor who also visited Sengani Community Hospital and inspected the ongoing works of a new maternity wing and staff quarters, said he has tasked the Ministry of Health to standardize all health facility operations in the County.

Dr. Mutua reiterated that this is aimed at ensuring patients visiting any facility in the county experience the same process from registration to receiving medications.

“The patients I interacted with at Sengani Community Hospital are happy with the efficient services at the facility and the continuing works will be completed soon,” said Dr. Mutua

The County boss urged contractors and county officials to serve the people diligently by steering projects to meet deadlines, adding that delays and other malpractices are unacceptable

“We must commit to our work because at the end of the day, our employers are the taxpayers and we are here to serve them,” added Dr. Mutua

He further added that he was pleased with the progress of Kinyui Stadium where he urged the contractor to increase his pace to ensure project meets the set deadline.
