Tension is high in Porro –Malaso area of Samburu County following the killing of one National Police Reservist (NPR) over the weekend.
The area resident are warning their neighbouring community in Porro- Malaso not to attend the Porro market day, on Monday following the incident.
Confirming the killings, the Samburu County Police Commander (CPC), Samson Agello, told KNA in Maralal town that the NPR was killed with other two seriously injured by heavily armed cattle rustlers while pursuing the stolen animals in Marti area.
Agello further disclosed that more than 900 herds of cattle were reported stolen by the suspected raiders to be from Baringo County. During the heavy exchange of fire the NPR were overpowered by the raiders with one of them having been shot dead.
The CPC said that the rustlers fled towards Malaso valley with the stolen animals. He added that security personnel responded immediately after the report of the incident and alongside the KPR, the officers were in hot pursuit of the raiders and soon they will be brought to book.
The County Police Boss said that the animals were stolen when they were being driven from Marti towards Lokororo area for pasture and water when they came into contact with raiders who killed the KPR injuring two others.
Agello added that the two injured people were admitted at Maralal Referral Level five Hospital while the deceased was taken to the Hospital mortuary, waiting postmortem.
