Machakos County issues School Bursaries worth Sh.44 Million

The  county government of Machakos has issued bursaries amounting Sh.44 million in a concerted effort to enhance primary and secondary education in Kangundo sub-county of Machakos.

Speaking while presiding over the issuance over the weekend, the Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua said the cheques will go towards the education of 16,638 secondary school students, 622 tertiary institution students and 673 university students.

“So far, my government has given out bursaries of over Sh.496.3 million shillings as they supplement the free primary and secondary education programme,” said Dr. Mutua.

Governor Mutua  who had earlier on toured the Kangundo Level 4 hospital and listened to the issues facing patients pointed out that education and training in all the Machakos County polytechnics is free of charge and is aimed at building the skills of the youth.

He said that he is pleased that treatment continues to be free of charge but said that he is concerned about the issue of drugs and some services at the hospital.

“The hospital does not also reflect my international standards. Things will have to change,” said Dr. Mutua.

On the issue of the Corona Virus threat, he assured the residents that Machakos is prepared to face the disease.

“We have 22 bed isolation wards, have the kits and medicines ready and are completing specialised training of 15 health workers to deal with any infections,” said Dr. Mutua.

He further lauded members of the Machakos County Assembly for their continued support in striving to change the lives of the people for the better.
