Hundreds of Muslim faithfuls in Garissa on Friday thronged various prayer grounds to celebrate Idd-Ul-Fitr that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
Clad in their Islamic regalia, the faithful among them men, women and children started flocking to the prayer grounds as early as 6.30 am to secure space for the last prayers that bring to an end 30 days of fasting and prayers.
Security was tight in and around the prayer grounds.
The Garissa Governor, Ali Korane and area senator Yussuf Haji joined the faithful at the famous General Mohamud prayer grounds where they thanked the faithful for upholding peace during the entire month of Ramadhan despite threats from the Somalia based Al-Shabaab terror group.
And addressing the press at Bulla Iftin where he commissioned a Shs. 1 million borehole, Korane put the contractors on notice, saying that none of them will be paid for a shoddy job.
“Our engineers are under firm instructions not to sign certificate of completion if the contracts are not done in accordance with the contract specifications,” Korane said.
“If you fail (contractor) to perform we shall take away the job from you and pay you for what you have done and give the contract to somebody else. We want all contractors to earn an honest profit maximum 20 percent of the sum contract,” he added.
The governor however, assured all the contractors that they will be paid immediately they present their certificates of completion.
“There are a lot of cartels and commission agents who think they are going to make a kill from the county government of Garissa. I am sorry to disappoint you that that will not happen under my watch,” Korane said.
The governor said already 94 contracts have been given out and their funds already set aside.
“I expect that these contracts once completed will make some impact on the lives of the people of Garissa,” he said.
He reiterated that his administration is on course to delivering the pledges it made to the Garissa residents during his election campaign.
The Garissa senator, Yusuf Haji said he will mobilise all the MCAs, other elected leaders and the community at large to support governor Korane in his bid to deliver his election manifesto.
Haji told those politicising programmes aimed at bettering the lives of Garissa residents that ‘we are done with politics and its time to focus on improving the livelihood of our people’.
Both Korane and Haji sent messages of goodwill to the Muslims countrywide as they celebrate Idd-Ul-Fitr.
