Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has faulted political leaders opposing the expansion of the executive as proposed in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Kibwana said those alleging that creation of a prime minister post and two deputies is akin to creating jobs for specific individuals are dishonest.
The governor noted that the positions had been envisaged in the Bomas draft and majority of politicians had supported the structure.
“Leaders opposing the proposed structure are insincere, because even during the coalition government the law was changed and a position for the prime minister was created,” he said.
The governor was addressing the press in Kasikeu on Wednesday during the issuance of title deeds to 3,178 households in Mukaa Sub County.
He called on residents to rally behind the BBI saying the lower eastern region had a lot to gain from the report.
“BBI recommends the allocation of revenue to rise to between 35 and 45 percent up from the current 15 percent and this increase will have a lot of impact in terms of development,” said the governor.
On the 7th annual devolution conference to be hosted by the county in April, Kibwana urged residents position themselves to reap the economic benefits offered by the event.
He said more than 8,000 delegates are expected to attend the three day event scheduled to start on April 20.
“There will be a lot of opportunities especially in the hospitality industry and we encourage residents to offer accommodation to delegates at their homes at a fee,” added the governor.
Kibwana said the conference will be held in collaboration with Kitui and Machakos counties.
