The government has assured all communities living in Trans Nzoia that they will be included in the development agenda of the region without discrimination.
Speaking to the Turkana community at Dura farm in Kitale on Monday, the Trans Nzoia County Commissioner (CC), Samson Ojwang said that all Kenyans have a right to government services and the government has a responsibility to serve its people diligently.
“I want to assure all communities living in Trans Nzoia that the government is committed to programmes for wananchi to provide education for all, empower youths and women through its social protection initiatives,” he said.
According to the CC, empowerment programmes such as Uwezo Fund, youth enterprise fund, women enterprise fund are meant for all Kenyans to boost their economic incomes.
The CC was reacting to complaints from the Turkana community who had said that the government had sidelined them.
He encouraged members of the community to form groups that will enable them qualify for subsidized loans offered by government.
Ojwang said that he will reach out to relevant government departments to carry out sensitization on government programmes among all communities living in the region.
The Trans Nzoia Turkana community women leader, Jane Mogilla speaking at the same function said that Turkana women needed sensitization on entrepreneurship and services offered by the government.
“My fellow women really need to be sensitized on matters women empowerment and entrepreneurship so as to make them start income generating projects that will improve their livelihood,” Mogilla said.
The Turkana community youth leader, Ekenol Labista asked the government to start programmes that will drive out young people from the streets of Kitale and instead work hard to fend for themselves and their families.
