Residents told to work with police to control crime

The  Kwale County Commissioner (CC), Karuku  Ngumo has asked area residents to work closely with the police to ensure adequate security.

Ngumo said citizens have a critical role to play in security matters and asked communities to report to authorities any suspicious activities in their localities.

“To tackle crime effectively active community participation in crime prevention is essential,” he said.

He  was  addressing a security Baraza on Monday  at  Moshini village in Ng’ombeni location Matuga Sub County accompanied by The  County Police Commander (CPC), Joseph  Nthenge.

The  vast location that straddles the Mombasa-Kwale border has recently witnessed a wave of crime the latest being robberies perpetuated by gun-wielding gangs on motorcycles targeting business premises.

The administrator urged residents of the coastal county to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative to rein on crime at the grassroots level as the county security team marshals resources to deal with security situation.

Nthenge urged the public to volunteer credible information to the security personnel that will assist them to solve crimes.

He  called on the public to partner with the police in the fight against crime, noting that the fight against crime is not just for the police service.

The  CPC  hailed the Nyumba Kumi initiative championed by the national government noting that it would help the public and police work closely in the protection of lives and properties.

Nthenge  also said the all-out war on drug trafficking would continue unabated and that drug pushers and users would be arrested.

“We will not slow down until there is no single drug trafficker left in the entire county,” said Nthenge.
