Following the National Government’s aim of opening up Kiambu county and ending traffic jam in the growing town, expansion of the Muthaiga-Kiambu Road has begun to the relief of the motorists.
Eng. Kevin Nyabuto, the Deputy Director of KeNHA told a County Development Implementation Coordination Committe (CDICC) held at the County Commissioner’s office on Friday that the expansion project was envisaged in 2016 after which the road designs were prepared by the KeNHA awaiting funding.
He assured the committe that the work was on-course as it was now fully funded.
Speaking to KNA at his office on Monday, the Kiambu sub-county planner, Peter Saivani Mwenga noted that the designs were submitted and the road expansion process started in January 2020.
The expansion of this road is going to be of great benefit to the people of Kiambu sub-county especially those that depend on the road to move to and from work as it would ease the flow of motor vehicles and enable commuters and other motorists reach their places of work in record time.
Previously, the highway to Nairobi has been a nightmare to the motorists and traffic police officers have been compelled to camp along the road to faciltate a smooth flow of the vehicles.
Some impatient matatu drivers intending to generate more money have come face to face with the traffic police officers and have been arraigned in court in connection with flouting traffic rules of overlapping and ferrying passengers from areas that were not designated for the activity.
The Kiambu sub-county residents have appreciated the efforts by the National Governmet and were eagerly waiting for the completion of the road expected to be complete in the next eight months.
Expansion of this road will not only benefit commuters but it will increase the number of investors who will now want to start up businesses in Kiambu Sub-County due to the fast accessibility and ease to traverse to other areas of Githunguri, Kiambaa and Ruiru sub-counties.
Successful expansion will also help Kiambu sub-county town stand out as the headquarters of Kiambu County as it would have proper road network from Muthaiga to Ndumberi town.
Speaking to KNA, Benard Njue a matatu driver plying the Nairobi- Kiambu route, expressed his happiness the expansion would not only end traffic jam but enable them generate more income.
