Politicians warned against causing tension

Politicians in Narok have been warned against uttering words that could cause division and tension among residents living in the county.

Consequently, area County Commissioner (CC), Samuel Kimiti said they are still investigating utterances made by some politicians during the BBI forum held at Ole Ntimama Stadium on Saturday.

“We are still investigating and if anyone is found culpable, we want to assure the public that he will not go unpunished,” said Kimiti.

Meanwhile, the CC accompanied by members of his security team has moved to assure area residents that no single individual will be chased out of the county regardless of their ethnic background.

“The law is clear that any Kenyan can live wherever he /she wishes. At the same time, business people are free to continue doing their trade anywhere in the country as there is enough security for all,” reiterated Kimiti.

Kimiti  called on local politicians to be careful with their public utterances to avoid creating unnecessary tension among the residents in the cosmopolitan County.

The  CC warning, comes barely days after Narok Deputy Governor, Evalyne Aruasa and Emurrua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johanna Ngeno led a host of leaders in walking out a stakeholders meeting intended to give views on BBI last Friday.

The politicians allied to Deputy President, William Ruto had accused the Maa community of using native language during the forum instead of the official language that they could all understand.

“Despite several attempts to request the Narok Governor, Samuel Tunai and his Kajiado counterpart, Joseph Ole Lenku to lead the forum in a language we could all understand, nothing changed. We felt left out in the forum,” said Ngeno.

Additionally, many Maa leaders who spoke at the Ole Ntimama Stadium on Saturday lamented about historical land injustices that have made the community feel marginalized since independence.

The leaders among them Narok, the Senator Ledama Ole Kenta and the Narok North MP, Moitalel Ole Kenta vowed to protect Maasai land rights. .

However, the  KANU Secretary General, Nick Salat lashed out at leaders who walked out of the BBI forum where they would have had a chance of airing out their views.

Salat who was speaking at a Narok hotel said every Kenyan remain entitled to present opinion affecting them to the BBI secretariat.
