Mawe Tatu sub location Assistant Chief Wycliffe Masinde said they suspect the victim was defiled and murdered before being dumped in the stream as the body was completely naked.

Her friends said they had met her at Sango market on Wednesday where she promised them that she would return home soon though she did not reveal to them where she lived.

Residents led by Mulati Wafula Ngao and Maurice Handa have decried the state of insecurity in the area following a spate of rape and murder incidents.

The body was taken to Kitale hospital mortuary for postmortem.
