A group of Mau Mau veterans in Nyeri County are set to benefit with a piece of 6, 000 acres of land in Rumuruti Laikipia County, says the Chairman Kikuyu Council of Elders Nyeri County Dr Eng. Muthoga wa Kirethi.
Speaking Thursday during a consultative meeting with Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Kikuyu Council of Elders members at Kabiruini grounds, Muthoga said members have been contributing a small amount of money which enabled them to buy the piece of land.
He said members have consulted a company from Israel that was willing to assist with new farming technology and undertake farming on the land on behalf of the members of the group to enable them get higher returns.
He said in return, members would benefit from monthly payments after the farm produce are sold.
Muthoga said this would also benefit the children of the group members because they would get employment on the farm.
He also said that the monthly payments would continue even after the death of any member to their children.
Muthoga urged all the beneficiaries to open Sacco accounts so that the payments could be channeled through those accounts.
“Open banks accounts where your monthly payments can be channeled to,” said Muthoga.
