Girl, 17, hangs herself in police cells in Ganze Sub County

A 17- year old girl is suspected to have hanged herself in police cells in Bamba police station in Ganze Sub County where she had been locked up for allegedly failing to report to form one.

Margret Shukrani Masha was alleged to have had a six months pregnancy and she allegedly refused to join form one until she gives birth.

The boy responsible for the pregnancy, a form 3 student at Mitangani secondary school together with both parents of the diseased and the boy have been arrested and arraigned in court for neglecting to take up their parental responsibilities.

According to the mother of the deceased Jumwa Masha, the girl had gone to the police station to get a written permit to allow her stay at home until she gives birth and later join form one when she was locked up in the cells.

An hour later, she was allegedly found hanging with a rope around her neck though the parents did not witness the incident as the body was immediately removed to Kilifi county referral hospital mortuary by the police.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that there was blood coming out from the body’s private parts causing suspicion that she might have been raped at the police station.

Ganze Sub County police commander Timothy Mwasya confirmed the incident and revealed that investigations had been launched to back up the post mortem examination to be done at the mortuary in the presence of the parents.
